“We invite our young men to be worthy to be ordained to the appropriate priesthood office, receive the Melchizedek Priesthood at the appropriate age, receive the ordinances of the temple, serve a full-time mission, and prepared to be a righteous husband and father after their missionary service. We invite our young women to be worthy to receive sacred ordinances, keep the associated covenants, serve a full-time mission if they desire, and prepared to be a righteous wife and mother at the appropriate time”.
Africa West Area Plan 2017
This clarion call to the YSA by the Area presidency as part of the 2017 Area Goals have been welcomed with much enthusiasm as Ajorman Ward Young Single Adults join their chums at the Teshie meeting house for Family Home Evening.
Teshie and Adjorman Wards form part of the newly created Teshie Ghana Stake.
The FHE was presided by Brother Francis Adjei Akpor, second counselor in the Teshie Ward 1 bishopric. He averred in his opening remark that, “we have gathered here with a common purpose, that is to strengthen ourselves to be better husbands and wives, and this can be achieved as we engage anxiously in the proceedings of this meeting.”
The night was filled with the Holy Spirit as Brother Simon Atanbori emphasized the power of the Book of Mormon. He shared the counsel—as well as the blessings—given by the prophet, President Monson, during the April 2017 General Conference. Brother Akpor paraphrased the prophet’s words in this way: “My dear Young Single Adults, I implore each of us to prayerfully study and ponder the Book of Mormon each day. As we do so, we will be in a position to hear the voice of the Spirit, to resist temptation, to overcome doubt and fear, and to receive heaven’s help in our lives”.
After his scriptural thought on the power of the Book of Mormon, he solicited impressions from other YSA who have gained a testimony by reading and pondering the Book of Mormon. After some minutes of personal introspection, Brother Eric Boateng voiced that, “ I have multiplied my blessings by serving, as I read the Book of Mormon especially heeding to King Benjamin’s counsel in Mosiah 2:17.”
Sister Charity Abbam of Adjorman Ward expressed her impressions this way; “I have come to know that the Lord would always open ways for His children as they obey His commandments. I can say that I receive blessings from the Lord whenever I obey His commandments as Nephi did”.
The FHE gathered momentum with excitement through fun games such as Sentence Challenge, Pick and Act, Riddles, spelling challenge and others. There was an opportunity to make new friends, and share our thoughts about the gospel.
The night ended with refreshment and pleasantries. There were 31 YSA in attendance.
