Ezra Taft Benson Agriculture and Food Scholarship
Purpose
The Ezra Taft Benson Agriculture and Food Scholarship helps members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in financial need obtain higher education or technical training in specific areas of study related to agriculture. Appropriate areas of study include (but are not limited to) agronomy, horticulture, animal science, and nutrition. The scholarship cannot be used for graduate or post-graduate studies. Certificate and diploma programs lasting 1-2 years will also be considered. Scholarships are generally used to help pay for school tuition, required fees, books, and supplies.
This scholarship is made possible by special donations to the Church. Limited numbers of scholarships are available each year.
To be considered for this scholarship, the applicant must:
Qualify for university studies or other post-secondary training.
Be living in and planning to attend school in a developing country and plan to work there.
Demonstrate financial need.
Receive ecclesiastical endorsements from bishop or branch president and stake or district president.
Have served a full-time mission or have been excused from service (male applicants only).
Be current on any PEF loan for the six months preceding the application (If you have a PEF loan).
Have successfully completed one of the following: 1) the three Path Way courses, 2) at least one year at a tertiary school or 3) the Self-Reliance Services course “Education for a Better Job”.
Preferences
In order to provide as many scholarships as possible, applications for studies at public universities and training centers will be given a higher priority.
Those interested in applying for the scholarship should:
Include in “Section 2: Education and Career Plan” of the application the information required about the PEF loan and the successful completion of the course.
Complete the application form (send an email request for an application to bensonscholarship@churchofjesuschrist.org).
Scan the completed application form (including ecclesiastical endorsements) and send it to this email address: bensonscholarship@churchofjesuschrist.org.
The application will be reviewed by the scholarship committee and the applicant notified as to whether a scholarship has been awarded.
